We took a 6 hour cruise to the Bahamas, leaving from Port Everglades, Ft Lauderdale. The Discovery Cruise Lines ship left early on Friday morning (about 7:45 am) and arrived at Port Lucaya, Grand Bahama Island, at 1 pm that afternoon.

We stayed three nights on the island, staying at the Bell Channel Inn Hotel in Lucaya (formerly Freeport). The Bell Channel Inn is, surprizingly, on the Bell channel, a man-made channel running inland from the ocean. The closest beach was at "Our Lucaya", Grand Bahama's newest resort. It was about a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel to the beach.

On Monday morning we took a 5 hour bike tour around Lucaya and the surrounding area. We went with Kayak Nature Tours, which offers a variety of kayaking, biking and snorkeling tours. To our surprize and enjoyment, we discovered that we were the only people on the tour that day. The tour company owner, Erika Gates (a Bahamian citizen born in Germany), took us on the tour personally.
