Tovah Natur Cherop Davis

25 August 2004

Jennifer and I are proud to announce the birth of Tovah Natur Cherop Davis!!! She was born naturally at 2:13 AM this morning (Aug. 25, 04) in St. Joe's Hospital after a Herculean effort by her mother. She was 8 pounds, 3.4 ounces, and stunningly beautiful.

Tovah is a Hebrew name meaning good (or "propitious" for you lovers of language out there.) It is pronounced phonetically.

Natur is pronounced Na-TEER, and is Welsh. During our first year of marriage Jennifer and I lived in Aberystwyth, Wales. We have always had Wales in our heart since, and wanted to pay tribute to the beauty of Wales. In Aber we lived near a small piece of natural, Welsh, broadleaf forrest that we enjoyed walking in almost every evening. It had beautiful trees, some old stone walls, and views over Ceredigion Bay, the hills of Wales, and the town of Aberystwyth. In the Spring it was first carpeted with bluebells, and then with daffodils. This piece of beauty was called Parc Natur, hence Tovah's first middle name.

Cherop, pronounced Che-ROP, is a Pokot name refering to a girl who is born during the rains. This circumstantial name recognizes the rainy climate of Tacoma, and the rain that fell on the night Tovah was born.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers and gifts. Feel free to come see the baby, or call if you need help with the pronunciation of a Hebrew name, a Welsh name, or a Pokot name... :)
