News from Frank and Kylea Rorabaugh

6 May 2003

I am not sure how much Kylea was able to pass on to the class, but I thought I would write and let you know how I am doing.

If you were unaware, I was involved in a motorcycle accident on December 29, 2002. I fractured my right hip (the socket in my hip was forced apart by the ball attached to the end of my femur) in three places, broke my pinkie metacarple in my right hand, strained my right knee and right ankle and removed all the skin from my right leg.

I was in the hospital for 6 days and underwent surgery at which time the doctor used three titanium screws to rebuilt the socket of my hip. I was placed on bed-rest for the next two months ('till Feb. 25), only leaving my house for doctor's appointments. Also on Feb. 25th, I had the cast removed from my right arm and was released from bed-rest. I was able to return to light-duty (sitting at a desk at my police station taking walk-in reports and other such mundane tasks) on crutches. After a month of work on crutches, I was given the go ahead to start walking on March 25th. I have been struggling with a horrible limp for the last 5 weeks, but am slowly getting it under control. At the end of April, I was told I could begin to try and run, to get back in shape for work. I have not run, much yet, but have been working out on an eliptical machine 4 times a week for about an hour in an attempt to strenghen my body without enduring the impact of running. I am now on the short end of this trial. I return to full-duty and get to don the uniform again on May 25th if everything goes as planned!

I would like to thank all of you who have prayed for me in the last months, it has been one of the hardest periods of my life, and without your prayers, I am not sure how I would have made it. Kylea has really learned what "for better or for worse" means. She has had to take care of me, as well as our entire household while working and going to school. I thank God for her love and endurance every day.

If anybody wishes to reach either of us, our information is current in the directory secure. God bless you all,

Frank
