The Davis Wedding

15 September 1999

Dear Fellow Classmates,

Well, as most of you know, I am now a (happily) married jamaa. Jennifer and I were married on August 14th at the AIM headquarters in Pearl River, New York. It was most wazi, although jamaas were few. Greg was my best man with Simeon, Heath, Jen's bro: Mike, and ana' buddy named Jason as groomsmen. All these jamaas were here by the Wednesday before the wedding, so Thursday night we went out for a very tame bachelor's party on Mike's boat. After a few hours of coffee and bad jokes went to bed--and I was pleased to still have all my body hair.

By Friday night, all clanye-mates who were coming had arrived. Jesse drove up from Baltimore, Danny Law had been around a couple days, as had been Sarah and Christa, Nellie showed up (from who-knows-where), and Heather came up from New Jersey. Other random people were Heath's Pinti brithe' Reid (who dotted us with a made-up story at the reception), Penski's (who drove down from The Great White North), Freys, and Barnetts. Other classmates showed up on Saturday: Josh Lewis (and babe), Yo-el Ju, and Monica and Lindsey Gardiner (who dotted us in ways.)

The ceremony went great. My fithe' was the Reverend--which was tech. Boss Habbeggar sang, as Skinner's plans to come had fallen through. All the Groomsmen were looking sharp in the tuxes which had cost mob chumz to rent, and in black Bata Bullets. Deion and Nicolle Collins were ring bearer/flower girl and did an excellent job.

After Jen and I ran through the tunnel of people blowing bubbles at us (rather than throwing rice) the whole wedding party spent the next 40 minutes before the reception having our pictures taken in every imaginable combination (eg. entire party, just men, just ladies, just bride and flower girl, etc.) The reception was excellent, with Greg Collins presiding as MC. Mob storos got told about how I am such a wog, and about how Jen is such a sweetheart. Speeches were given by Greg, Jen's father, and myself, whilst we feasted on apricot chicken, and people repeatedly clinked their dishes forcing Jen and me to mum often.

After the cutting of the cake and the tossing of the bouquet, Jen and I headed up into her room to change and to leave. It was here that my jamaas found me, and locking Jen up in the bathroom, proceeded to sign my chest with permanent marker--Thank God that was the worst of it. Jen and I said our last good-byes to our guests and headed through the pouring rain to our car, which had been decorated beyond belief. All the shaving cream that had covered it was by now washed off, and the streamers were now just sticking all over the car. But other than that, there was a bouquet of helium balloons anchored to our sunroof, a light bulb taped to the front of the car (so that the Moth could follow the light), and the inside was packed full of balloons.

(This next paragraph is as redundant and repetitive as can be, but unless you can think of an easier way to tell the chronology of a honey moon with out saying "the next day" a million times just bear with me.)

Anyway, we spent our first night in the Mawah Sheraton just 20 minutes away. The next night we drove down to Atlantic City, where we spent the day on the boardwalk and the beach. Then we drove down to Delaware, and camped by the beach and tried out our new sleeping bags. The next day we drove to Roanoke, South Carolina, and spent the next two days in a really nice inn. While we were there we went to an outdoor play, to the beach, and ate excellent seafood. The next day we took a long drive to South Carolina, and the next day down to the AIM Retirement Center in Florida to see my Grandmother before she had replacement knee surgery. We were put in Scott Home with the really old people--but we never saw even one. Anyway, after a couple of days with my Grandmother, she went into surgery, and we went to Disney World (courtesy of one of my grandmother's friends.)

Then we began the drive home. On the way, we visited my relatives in Alabama (who recently purchased a 1946 fire engine to water the peas) and the Daintys in Richmond. Ben and Hannah were also there, and their house is most wazi--they also endured scanning all our pictures. We were back in New York the next day, and since then we have been preparing and packing to go to Wales.

As most of you know, I will be studying at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth, this next academic year. Jen and I will be living in the married housing on campus in a mobile home (which is very nice--I got to go to Aberystwyth on my way over to Kenya this summer, and previewed our new home.) Jen is hoping to be working with a company called Prospects which assists and trains the developmentally disabled.

So that is the news. Now that I have brought you up to speed, I just want to thank all of you who were able to attend, and all who wished us luck and remembered us in prayer. Please continue to pray for us this year, specifically Jen's job, my schoolwork, and that we will find a good church to become a part of. My new address in Aberystwyth will be posted in the directory, as will (hopefully) a new email address. We will be leaving for Wales on September 15th.

Until we meet again, God Bless,

Daniel and Jennifer Davis
